The Star Sydney
Sydney's original casino resort — entertainment, gaming, and dining on Darling Harbour.
80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Operated by: The Star Entertainment Group Ltd.
The Star Sydney opened in November 1995 as Star City Casino, occupying a prime location on the western edge of the Sydney CBD at Pyrmont, overlooking Darling Harbour. It was rebranded as The Star in 2011 as part of a major renovation programme. The complex now encompasses a substantial casino floor, two hotels, multiple restaurants and bars, and a rooftop entertainment precinct overlooking the city.
The casino floor spans approximately 20,000 square metres with over 1,500 gaming machines and around 200 table games. The table game selection includes baccarat, blackjack, roulette, pai gow, and sic bo, reflecting the casino's strong Asian-Australian customer base. The Sovereign Room provides a premium-mass and high-roller environment for higher-stakes play.
The Darling Hotel and The Star Grand Hotel together provide over 600 rooms on-site, with a rooftop bar and pool at The Darling becoming one of Sydney's most sought-after lifestyle venues. The Star Bar and Harvest Buffet are among the busiest food and beverage operations in Sydney. The casino has faced regulatory difficulties in recent years — an independent inquiry in 2022 found The Star Entertainment Group unsuitable to hold its NSW licence due to governance failures, leading to a court-appointed manager taking oversight of the property.
