Crown Sydney

Sydney's most controversial building — an architectural crown above Barangaroo.

One Barangaroo Avenue, Barangaroo, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Operated by: Crown Resorts Ltd. (Blackstone Inc.)

Crown Sydney opened its hotel on December 28, 2020, with the gaming floor following on August 8, 2021 after a regulatory delay caused by an inquiry that found Crown Resorts unsuitable to hold the Sydney licence. The 75-storey tower, designed by WilkinsonEyre Architects, rises above the Barangaroo precinct with a distinctive fluted crown silhouette that has divided Sydney's architectural opinion since construction began.

The gaming floor at Crown Sydney is notably restricted compared to Crown's Melbourne and Perth properties — it operates under a high-roller-only licence that limits access to players who deposit a minimum of AUD 1,000 and prohibits electronic gaming machines. This restriction was a political compromise that emerged from years of community debate about the desirability of a casino in Sydney's CBD-adjacent foreshore.

The hotel component is among the finest in Australia: 349 rooms and suites designed to ultra-luxury standards, with the top floors offering views that span Sydney Harbour, the Opera House, and the Blue Mountains on clear days. The culinary programme is exceptional — Nobu Sydney, Woodcut by Ross Lusted, and Oncore by Clare Smyth (the first Australian restaurant by a female Michelin three-star chef) anchor the dining offering.
