Crown Melbourne

Australia's largest casino resort, on the banks of the Yarra River.

8 Whiteman Street, Southbank, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Operated by: Crown Resorts Ltd.

Crown Melbourne opened in 1994 on the southern bank of the Yarra River and is Australia's largest casino complex, holding one of only two full-service casino licences in Victoria. The complex spans approximately 510,000 square metres and sits in the heart of Melbourne's Southbank entertainment precinct.

The main casino floor at Crown Melbourne covers 220,000 square metres across three separate gaming levels. With approximately 540 gaming tables and 2,500 gaming machines, it is one of the largest gaming operations in the Southern Hemisphere. The complex features three luxury hotel towers: Crown Towers, Crown Metropol, and Crown Promenade, together comprising over 1,600 rooms.

Crown Melbourne operates 40+ restaurants and bars, a 1,700-seat theatre (The Palms), multiple nightclubs, and a 10-screen Hoyts cinema complex. It is also notable for its large Asian gaming rooms, which are among the busiest in Australia given Melbourne's large Chinese-Australian community.

The company faced significant regulatory scrutiny between 2019–2022 following a royal commission, which found Crown Melbourne unsuitable to hold its casino licence due to historical facilitation of money laundering. A court-appointed Special Manager oversaw the remediation programme until Crown was deemed suitable in June 2023.
