Mohegan Sun
One of North America's largest casinos — tribal sovereignty, world-class gaming, and arena entertainment.
1 Mohegan Sun Blvd, Uncasville, Connecticut, USA
Operated by: Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut
Mohegan Sun, operated by the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut under federal tribal gaming law, opened in October 1996 on the Thames River in Uncasville, Connecticut. It is one of the highest-grossing casinos in the United States and, together with nearby Foxwoods Resort Casino, makes Connecticut home to two of the largest casino complexes in North America — a concentration of gaming capacity within a 30-minute drive that rivals any jurisdiction outside Nevada and Macau.
The casino complex is divided into three interconnected gaming zones. Casino of the Earth — the original building inspired by Mohegan seasonal traditions — features a dramatic domed ceiling painted as a night sky and incorporates artwork and architectural elements referencing Mohegan culture and cosmology. Casino of the Sky and Casino of the Wind occupy expanded phases, together bringing total gaming space to approximately 300,000 square feet with over 5,400 slots and 180 table games.
Mohegan Sun Arena, a 10,000-seat venue attached to the casino complex, has hosted major artists and serves as the home arena of the Connecticut Sun (WNBA). The arena's scale is unusual for a casino property and reflects the Tribe's ambition to establish Mohegan Sun as a regional entertainment destination competing with urban venues.
The resort's proximity to New York (approximately 2 hours by car) and Boston (1.5 hours) makes it accessible for day trips and weekends, and package tours combining both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods remain popular with Northeast US visitors.
