Ultimate Texas Hold'em
Ultimate Texas Hold'em is a casino poker variant that mirrors the structure of Texas Hold'em — each player and the dealer use two hole cards plus five community cards to make the best hand — but players compete against the dealer rather than each other. Developed by Roger Snow and first introduced by Shuffle Master in 2006, Ultimate Texas Hold'em allows players to raise early and large, rewarding aggression with better expected value than cautious play. The house edge on optimal play is approximately 2.19%, but incorrect play can raise this significantly.
Rules & Gameplay
Player and dealer each receive two hole cards face down; five community cards are dealt face down. Players place mandatory Ante and Blind bets. Pre-flop decision: raise 3x or 4x the Ante, or check. Flop (three community cards revealed) decision: if checked pre-flop, raise 2x the Ante, or check again. Turn and River (remaining two community cards revealed) decision: if still checked, raise 1x the Ante, or fold (lose Ante and Blind). Dealer must have at least a pair to qualify. If dealer doesn't qualify: Ante pushes, Blind pushes (or pays based on player hand), Play bet pays 1:1. If dealer qualifies and player wins: Ante 1:1, Play 1:1, Blind pays according to pay table (Straight: 1:1, Flush: 3:2, Full House: 3:1, Four of a Kind: 10:1, Straight Flush: 50:1, Royal Flush: 500:1). Blind pushes on one pair or less. Trips side bet available with separate pay table.
Basic Strategy
Raise 4x pre-flop with any pair, any Ace, K-2 suited through K-Q offsuit, Q-6 suited, Q-8 offsuit. Raise 3x pre-flop with all other premium hands (detailed charts available). On the flop, raise 2x with two pair or better, hidden pair with top kicker, or four to a flush. On the river, raise 1x with hidden pair or better. Fold river if you cannot beat the dealer's board (no pair or worse). Never fold before the river if you have any live draw or pair. The Trips side bet returns 0.35% to the player in most configurations, making it one of the few casino side bets worth considering.
