Dragon Tiger
Dragon Tiger is the fastest-growing card game in Asian casinos, often described as the simplest casino game in existence. Two cards are dealt — one to Dragon, one to Tiger — and the higher card wins. There are no drawing rules, no strategy decisions, and no complex payouts. The entire outcome is determined by a single card comparison. Originated in Cambodia and spread rapidly through Southeast Asia, Macau, and now mainstream casinos worldwide, Dragon Tiger appeals to players who want pure luck-based action at the highest possible pace. A skilled dealer can run 180–200 rounds per hour, making it the fastest table game on the casino floor.
Rules & Gameplay
One card is dealt face-up to Dragon and one face-up to Tiger. Card values follow standard poker rankings: Ace (low) = 1, numbered cards = face value, face cards: Jack = 11, Queen = 12, King = 13. The higher card wins. Bets: Dragon (pays 1:1), Tiger (pays 1:1), Tie (pays 8:1 or 10:1 depending on casino). When a Tie occurs, Dragon and Tiger bets lose half. Suit-based side bets (Big/Small, Odd/Even, Red/Black on either Dragon or Tiger position) are available at most venues, typically paying 1:1 with a 7.7% house edge. House edge: Dragon/Tiger = 3.73%, Tie = 32.77% (8:1 payout). In some variants, Tie pays 11:1, reducing its edge to 10.4%. Some casinos use a six-deck shoe; others use eight decks.
Basic Strategy
Dragon and Tiger bets are mathematically equivalent — neither has an edge over the other. Play either consistently rather than switching, as each hand is fully independent. The Tie bet (8:1) carries an extreme 32.77% house edge and should never be placed. Suit side bets offer worse odds than the main bets and should be avoided. If you enjoy Dragon Tiger for its pace and simplicity, set a session bankroll limit and use flat betting rather than progressive systems, as the high hand rate (180+ per hour) means bankroll depletion occurs far faster than at slower table games. The game's only strategic element is avoiding the Tie bet and suit propositions.
