Casino Hold'em

Casino Hold'em is a simplified poker-versus-dealer game based on Texas Hold'em, developed by Stephen Au-Yeung in 2000 and now widely played across Europe, online casinos, and cruise ships. Unlike Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Casino Hold'em has a fixed betting structure with no pre-flop raise option — players simply decide on the flop whether to call or fold. The game is often described as the easiest poker-style casino game to learn, and its house edge of approximately 2.16% on optimal play makes it one of the better-value house games available.

Rules & Gameplay

Player and dealer each receive two hole cards face down; three community cards (the flop) are dealt face up. Player places an Ante bet and optionally a bonus side bet. After seeing their two hole cards and the flop, the player decides: Call (place a Call bet of exactly 2x the Ante) or Fold (forfeit the Ante). The remaining two community cards (turn and river) are then dealt. Both player and dealer use the best five-card hand from their two hole cards plus the five community cards. Dealer must have a pair of 4s or better to qualify. Dealer doesn't qualify: Ante pays 1:1, Call pushes. Dealer qualifies and player wins: Ante 1:1, Call 1:1. Dealer qualifies and dealer wins: player loses both bets. Tie: both bets push. AA Bonus side bet pays based on player's hole cards and the flop regardless of dealer hand.

Basic Strategy

Call with any pair or any draw (flush draw, open-ended straight draw, or gutshot with overcards). Fold only when you have no pair, no draw, and no overcards to the board. In practice, the correct fold frequency is very low — approximately 18% of hands. Always call with a pair, always call with four to a flush or straight, always call with two overcards to the board. The AA Bonus side bet pays 7:1 for a pair of Aces through the flop — in most configurations the house edge is around 6.4%, making it a modest side bet that adds excitement without catastrophic expected value loss.
