Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) opened its casino on February 14, 2010, making it the first IR to open in Singapore by a few weeks ahead of Marina Bay Sands. Developed by Genting Singapore on the resort island of Sentosa, RWS took a different positioning to its competitor — while MBS targeted the premium/VIP segment, RWS built a family entertainment anchor in Universal Studios Singapore.
Universal Studios Singapore — Southeast Asia's only Universal theme park — opened within RWS in 2011 and remains the resort's strongest visitor draw for families and regional tourists. The casino occupies 15,000 square metres and is known for its premium mass baccarat and junket operations serving regional high rollers.
RWS also contains the S.E.A. Aquarium (now renamed Singapore Oceanarium), one of the world's largest aquariums with over 100,000 marine animals across 49 million litres of water. The resort's six hotels range from the ultra-luxury Crockfords Tower to the family-oriented Hard Rock Hotel, spanning over 1,600 rooms in total.
