Resorts World Genting
The only casino in Malaysia — 1,800 metres above sea level in the cloud forest.
Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia
Operated by: Genting Malaysia Berhad
Resorts World Genting sits at 1,800 metres elevation in the Genting Highlands of Pahang, approximately one hour from Kuala Lumpur by road or cable car. It holds the only legal casino licence in Malaysia — a fact that makes it one of the most extraordinary monopoly operations in global gaming. Founded by Lim Goh Tong, who carved the original road to the summit in 1965 and opened the casino in 1971, it has been operated by the Genting Group ever since.
The isolation, climate (Genting Highlands averages 18°C, providing relief from the Malaysian heat), and monopoly status combine to produce one of the highest revenue-per-visitor ratios in global gaming. The property draws approximately 20 million visitors annually — roughly equivalent to Las Vegas Strip total attendance — despite serving a country with a much smaller GDP per capita.
The resort complex has expanded into a multi-hotel, multi-venue destination covering hundreds of acres of mountain terrain. Twentieth Century Fox World (Asia's first Fox theme park) opened in 2022 inside the First World Indoor Theme Park complex. The casino itself spans 105,000 square metres with approximately 500 table games and 3,000 slot machines. Access from Kuala Lumpur is via the Awana SkyWay gondola — the world's fastest gondola at 200 metres per minute.
