Rolling Chip System: Asia's VIP Casino Rebate Programme
How the rolling chip (non-negotiable chip) rebate system works in Asian VIP casinos — and what the introduction of the Osaka IR means for Japanese players.
The rolling chip (RC) programme is the primary rebate mechanism used in Asian VIP casino markets, particularly Macau. Players receive a commission — typically 0.8–1.2% — on the total face value of non-negotiable chips wagered (their 'rolling volume'), regardless of their win or loss outcome.
How Rolling Chips Work
Rolling chips are non-negotiable: they can be bet but cannot be cashed out. Winnings from rolling chip bets are paid in regular cashable chips. The rolling chips themselves are consumed as they are wagered.
Example: A player generates HK$10 million in rolling volume at a 1.0% commission rate. They receive HK$100,000 back — whether they win or lose.
Effect on House Edge
Baccarat Banker house edge is ~1.06% on rolling volume. At a 1.0% commission rate, the effective player cost is only ~0.06% — effectively near-zero house edge. At commission rates above 1.06%, the mathematical edge flips to the player.
Osaka IR Implications
The Osaka IR (scheduled opening ~2030) is expected to introduce competitive rebate programmes to attract Asian VIP players competing with Macau, Singapore, and Korea. Japanese players and regional high-rollers should compare rolling chip commission rates and minimum volume requirements when the programme details are published.
Key Distinction
Only Banker bets typically count towards rolling volume at most properties. Player and Tie bets often do not qualify — verify with the casino host before beginning play.
